"Australian business leaders are at risk of 'latte laziness' that wastes time and doesn’t advance their company’s interests, and would benefit from making meetings more purposeful, according to Cassandra Kelly, a New York based Australian corporate  adviser to Fortune 500 clients."

Pottinger joins Indopac Council.

Indopac founder, Peter Charlton, said "I am delighted to welcome Cassandra and Nigel to the Council. The presence of an acknowledged business advisory group whose strategic knowledge and advice adds to the key role in Indopac, and to the strategic talent of our council. The Council includes: Naryana Murthy, founder of Infosys; Jack Ma of Alibaba, the Steve Jobs of this era; and Gina Rinehart of mining fame."

Pottinger founder Kelly said "In the next 20 years, we will see a dramatic shift in the economic centre of gravity to the Indo Asia Pacific region which will contribute disproportionately to global economic growth. The Indopac Council reflects an understanding of the need for a much greater focus to the regions' business and government issues."

Cassandra Kelly will be presenting with Jack Ma at the Indopac forum in Hong Kong in late April.

Article in The Big Idea, The Sydney Morning Herald

"Cassandra Kelly is a force of nature. Not content with running an exceptionally successful capital advice business with her husband, Nigel Lake, the formerly Sydney-based executive recently moved herself and her children to New York to give herself the best chance of changing the world. It may sound like a lofty ambition, but I have a feeling we will all soon become very familiar with Kelly's name."

The Making of Successful Women Directors

Webinar
Hosted by Directors & Boards

Cassandra Kelly spoke at a webinar on ways to improve the progress and the trajectory of women directors, hosted by Directors & Boards. The annual discussion features four women directors who have been nominated as a Director to Watch, recognizing ‘professionals who have contributed to and will continue to expand ongoing dialogue on board best practices and corporate governance excellence’. This year, speakers included Cassandra Kelly, Cheryl Mayberry McKissack, Brenda D. Newberry, and Beth Stewart. The discussion was moderated by Directors & Boards editor Jim Kristie.

Cassandra commented: “If you’re trying to get the very best thinkers around any table and you’re only recruiting from 50% of the gene pool, this is an illogical starting point. You can be certain you’re not getting the best if you’re not selecting from the whole field.”

Cassandra’s view on important points to consider if you are interested in a board position:
  1. Board members are often announced publicly and this needs to reflect well on the company making the announcement, so build a brand that is desirable.
  2. Be consistent and clear in what you will bring to the table and what people can expect from you.
  3. Make sure that your networks, and the people connected with boards of interest to you, know that you exist and that you are open and available to being considered

"It was a highly energized and diverse group of some of Australia’s high achievers who gathered at the first Boss True Leaders’ Legacy Dinner in Sydney in April to debate how Australia could seize the opportunities of the knowledge economy. "She was scaling the ranks in a global investment bank, earning a great income, living and working between London and New York and in line for a significant promotion. Some might have said Cassandra Kelly had it all. But at home, Kelly looked at herself in the mirror, with a comment from a colleague ringing in her ears, and decided it wasn't for her."
